At the highest level the Project Management consists of the following three processes:
- Preparation is geared to decision-making and is the process preceding the start of the
project. - Monitoring & Control is the process of guiding the actual project.
- Conclusion is the process of terminating the project.
preparation
Someone has an idea or a need a project may be born. The prepara-tion process defines the project start, the scope and requirements. Prior to the activity to fully scope the project, it is important to verify that the project is worthwhile and viable. Once there is a decision to go ahead with the project, it needs to be planned in detail. Funding needs to be arranged and controls should be in place.
monitoring & control
The Monitoring & Control processes we regard as the actual project execution process. These processes require the project deliverables to be definitely designed in all their details, to be effectuated, and if necessary tested to establish whether they meet all the requirements. If the outcome of the test is positive, Implementation into the organization production environment can go ahead, attention being devoted to After Care as well.
At the project execution level, the Monitoring & Control processes are made up of the following phases: Designing, Development and testing = the realization. This realization can be recurring or incremental.
conclusion
Ultimately, every project comes to an end. The project organization is dismantled and the project staff returns to their original plac-es of work, something which may already happened during an earlier phase, since specialized project staff only make a contribution to the project during a few of its phases.

Monitoring Aspects of a Project
The seven monitoring aspects that are essential from the start, during and when concluding the project must be addressed continually in order for you to be in control of your project. All seven aspects must be applied in a project but they should be tailored according to the scale, nature and complexity of your project concerned. In short these helps you with the following:
- You want to make sure that the project sticks closely to its time schedule;
- You would like to know at every stage how much money has been spent and how much is left;
- You would like for the outcomes of the interim products and final results to be of the desired quality;
- The sponsor and other stakeholders should also be informed about the project’s progress;
- You would like to have the project structure of accountability and responsibilities defined and established;
- To identify, asses and control uncertainty and, as a result, improve the ability of the project to succeed;
- Record the project issues and types, analyze and manage these, monitor the status and see how to take care of them.
